9-Year-Old Commits Suicide in School Bathroom

THE COLONY, Texas

A fourth-grader at Stewart’s Creek Elementary School was found hanged to death in his school’s bathroom on Jan. 21. According to police, the 9-year-old apparently committed suicide.

Police are investigating the death of Montana Lance but do not expect there will be any criminal charges. No motives were reported as to why the boy allegedly committed suicide.

Grief counselors were made available to students at the school and parents were notified through a letter.

In February 2009, a 10-year-old Chicago boy was found hanging by his shirt collar on a hook in a suburban elementary school bathroom stall. The fifth-grader was found by other students and was later pronounced dead. Police said his death was the result of suicide.
