SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco State University (SFSU) police arrested six people Thursday after authorities tried to clear out a dorm room. One police officer was taken to the hospitals due to injuries.
Officers arrived at Mary Ward Hall at 6:50 p.m. in response to complaints that a drunken man, who was not a student at the university, was causing a disturbance outside the dormitory. That man was arrested for being drunk in public without incident, the San Francisco Gate reports.
However, students later told police that a group of three men and two women, who weren’t students and weren’t supposed to be there, were inside the building. A disturbance broke out between the officers and the five individuals — who are part of the social activist group SF Commune — which left one police officer injured. The people were charged with resisting arrest, trespassing, conspiracy and lynching or attempting to free someone from police custody.
The next day, SF Commune activists held a demonstration to call for an end to alleged campus police brutality and harassment of students and visitors, indybay.org reports. The group maintains that the arrested individuals were invited into the dorm by SFSU students. The activists also claim that SFSUPD officers violently removed the people from the premises.
