4 Anti-Bullying Strategies That Don’t Work

The following approaches do not change the behaviors of bullies.

According to an article on bullies from Education Week that I just came across, the following approaches will not help to change the behavior of a bully:

  1. Zero tolerance or “three strikes, you’re out”
  2. Punishment such as suspension or expulsion
  3. Conflict resolution and peer mediation: Bullying is not a conflict between people of equal power who share equal blame
  4. Group treatment for students who bully: Group members tend to reinforce bullying behavior in each other.
