BALTIMORE – Three male students were stabbed at Morgan State University Dec. 6, police said.
All three victims are freshman at the university. Police believe two other freshmen were involved in the stabbings.
According to authorities, a female student left a dorm room party shortly after midnight when she was approached by at least two men outside of the Thurgood Marshall Residence hall.
After being harassed by the men, the student returned to the party, where a friend was celebrating a birthday, and asked three male students to accompany her outside.
The three students were then stabbed by the two assailants, who had fled the scene by the time campus police arrived.
Two of the victims were treated at Good Samaritan Hospital and were released. The third victim was taken to John Hopkins, where he stayed for the remainder of the evening although his injuries are not life-threatening.
Because there were witnesses, campus police believed that students were not in imminent danger and therefore the students and faculty were not notified of the incident through the “mobile alert” system.
Police stated that by informing the student population of the incident at the particular hour would have hindered the investigation.
Police planned to arrest two student suspects and another male who does not attend the school. Their names have not been released.
In September, Richard Asare, a student from Morgan State, was fatally shot several blocks away from the campus by an unknown gunman.
Students still believe the campus is safe; however, they feel that violent crimes are starting to pick up around the campus.
