2 Tennessee Nurses Stabbed by Patient

Gary Michael Smallwood was charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder after the incident.

Two nurses are expected to make full recoveries after being stabbed by a patient in a Knoxville hospital September 14.

Gary Michael Smallwood, 40, is in police custody after stabbing a male and a female nurse with scissors and a knife at Physicians Regional Medical Center.

The female nurse suffered a puncture wound to her chest while the male nurse had more serious injuries, according to wkrn.com.

Smallwood attacked the nurses around 6:30 a.m. after being admitted the day before for a personal medical condition.

Police said Smallwood was acting belligerent at a nearby Greyhound bus station when they called an ambulance.

Smallwood has been charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder and a $500,000 bond was set.
