Two men were arrested Aug. 23 following a ten-month investigation into the murder of a student on Tennessee State University’s campus last year.
Chris Gatewood and Robert Tunstall, both 20, were charged with first degree murder for the killing of 19-year-old Cameron Selmon, a Southwest Tennessee Community College student.
Police say both suspects fled to Memphis shortly after the Oct. 22, 2015 shooting, which injured three other students on campus.
Members of the United States Marshal’s Task Force arrested Gatewood at his mother’s home in Memphis and Tunstall was arrested while visiting his parole officer in Memphis, according to The Tennessean. The suspects were never TSU students.

The arrests are the result of an extensive investigation into the shooting by Metro Nashville police detectives. Officers used TSU security cameras to gather information about the suspects, who were seen firing their pistols in the footage.
The shooting was allegedly the product of a dispute over a dice game that escalated into a physical fight. Selmon was shot multiple times just before 11 p.m. as the suspects allegedly fired into a crowd in the outside courtyard of TSU’s Floyd-Payne Campus Center.
Three other people, all 18-year-old TSU freshmen, sustained minor injuries in the shooting. Two were briefly treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and one refused treatment.
Both suspects face charges of first degree murder, three counts of attempted second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of violating Tennessee’s Crooks with Guns statute and one count of felony reckless endangerment.
The suspects will be returned to Nashville and book in Metro Nashville Jail.
