East Lansing, Mich. — Twenty-eight members of the Theta Chi fraternity at Michigan State University were evacuated Oct. 28 after a fire broke out in a storage room in the basement of the frat house.
Several other fires were discovered and put out by firefighters during the search and rescue, The Detroit News reports. They also found that the house’s smoke detectors had been ripped from the walls or didn’t function because the wires had been cut.
A party for 800 people was held prior to the fire being reported. Three people were arrested and several others were ticketed for being disorderly, refusing to leave the scene of a fire or being a minor in possession of alcohol.
