PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Two female University of Wisconsin-Platteville students died in what officials call a “targeted and isolated” shooting in a campus dorm.
The shooting happened around 4 p.m. Monday inside Wilgus Hall, NBC News reports. UW-Platteville Police responded to reports of a disturbance and found the two women suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims, both 22-years-old, have been identified as Kelsie Martin and Hallie Helms.

Martin, who was an assistant resident director at Wilgus Hall, was taken to Southwest Health and then flown to the University of Wisconsin Hospital where she died. Helms, who lived in Wilgus Hall, was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A shelter-in-place order was issued but was lifted just after 5 p.m. when it was determined there was no ongoing threat.
“Further investigation continues around the circumstances surrounding the death of the two individuals,” the university said in a statement Tuesday.
According to a commencement program, both women had graduated just two days earlier. Martin graduated summa cum laude with a degree in psychology, and Helms graduated magna cum laude with an elementary education degree.
The university, which has about 6,000 students, canceled final exams and is offering counseling services this week at Mantra’s Care Hub. A toll-free emotional support line, staffed by mental health professionals, is also available at 844-602-6680 or 720-272-0004.
