1 Dead After 2 Fall from U. of Hawaii Dorm

The men, who were not students, were attending a party at the dorm.

Police say a man is dead after two men fell from the ledge of a University of Hawaii dormitory August 16.

Thomas Bennett, 24, was reportedly trying to prevent a 19-year-old from jumping off a ledge on the 14th floor of the building when a glass panel both men were holding shattered, according to the Associated Press.

Bennett was later pronounced dead at the hospital while the 19-year-old is in critical condition.

Neither man was a student at the University of Hawaii, but both were attending sophomore Ted Guillory’s party,

Guillory says Bennett went on the ledge to try to calm down the upset 19-year-old.

Only about 20 students were living in the building at the time of the fall. Most students were scheduled to move into the dorms August 18 and 21.
