TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — At the time of drum major Robert Champion’s death, 101 members of Florida A&M’s (FAMU) Marching 100 were not enrolled in FAMU’s band course, a violation of university rules.
Three of the eleven band members charged with felonies in Champion’s hazing-related death last week were not enrolled in the band course as required, Tallahassee.com reports. The Marching 100 Band Handbook says students cannot be issued a uniform unless their class schedule is submitted to the Department of Music.
BOT Chairman Solomon Badger expressed concern that non-students were able to be a part of the band while in violation of university policy.
