Webinar: Active Killer Response by Unarmed Security Officers

Campus Safety’s Educational Webcast Series gives high ranking campus security experts an avenue to present on specific topics to their peers.

Campus Safety will be hosting a free webinar on the ways that unarmed security officers can respond to active killer situations on June 16.

Stephen Lopez, the Chief of Police at New Mexico State University, will be discussing ways unarmed security personnel can provide lifesaving assistance in active killer events and reduce the response time of police and emergency medical personnel.

The webinar will also address how to recognize warning language in advance of an attack, what to do if the security staff is the target of an attack and how officers can help other people in the immediate vicinity of the killer.

Lopez will explain optimal positioning for monitoring an area, how to quickly treat the highest risk to life injuries and how to establish a casualty collection point.

The webinar is part of our new Educational Webcast Series that aims to put security industry lifers in a thought leadership position to share their expertise in certain areas.

Many schools and universities use some number of unarmed security personnel on their campuses, but when it comes to training for active killer events, those officers are sometimes ignored or told there isn’t much they can do. Lopez wants to show the critical role unarmed officers can play in such an event.
