NAPCO Hires Former School District Security Manager
Byron Thurmond will serve as NAPCO’s VP of School and Campus Security.
Byron Thurmond spent 30 years with the Houston Independent School District.
NAPCO Security Technologies, one of the world’s leading solutions providers and manufacturers of high tech electronic intrusion security, IoT connected home, video and fire systems, as well as enterprise-class access control and door locking products, announced that it has hired Byron Thurmond as VP of School & Campus Security Aug. 24.
Byron Thurmond joins NAPCO from the Houston Independent School District (HISD), where he has spent the past 30 years. During those years he held multiple roles, most recently as the Senior Manager of Security Services and Telecommunications. He oversaw multi million dollar budgets and installed 900 security systems, 13,000 cameras in over 280 schools, 340 access control panels and 2,000 card readers. He holds licenses from the Texas Dept. of Safety for Locksmith, Burglar Alarms, Access Control and Security Cameras.

The Houston Independent School District is the 7th largest district in the United States. They are members of the Council of Great City Schools (CGCS), which consists of the 28 largest public school districts in the country. Byron and HISD represented best practices security methods and installations, as part of the CGCS and has helped many other member schools improve their security preparedness. Houston issued a total of $80 million in bonds, which Byron directed towards HISD’s security efforts.
