Minn. District Opts to Spend More on Security

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The St. Paul school district has opted to keep American Security and Investigations as its security provider, even though the firm costs more than other bidders for the job this summer.

The district will pay the firm $1.4 million this coming school year, St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. The firm has served the district since 2005, and many of its 32 security officers deployed in the district have worked at St. Paul Public Schools just as long.

In June, the school board amended the previous fiscal year’s $975,000 purchase order for American Security services to reflect an extra $325,000 in spending for after-school and special event security needs, which had been left out due to a clerical error.
