AMHERST, Mass. — The Delta Upsilon fraternity at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) has been placed on emergency suspension by its national headquarters after a student fell from the roof and was in critical condition.
Nathaniel Grant, a student at the university, was drinking on the roof of the fraternity when he slipped and fell, the Daily Hampshire Gazette reports. Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan launched an investigation into whether drinking laws had been broken during the incident. Sullivan said anyone who provided alcohol to Grant — who is underage — would be prosecuted.
The university has also placed the fraternity under the status of “interim expulsion/loss of recognition” – meaning members cannot conduct any activities or recruit members. UMass officials are waiting until the completion of a police investigation before taking action against any fraternity members.
