BURLINGTON, Mass. — The town of Burlington voted Wednesday to spend $285,000 to improve school security, including reconfiguring the entrances at two of the town’s elementary schools.
The decision was made in response to the Sandy Hook shootings. The majority of the funds will be used to create a window-wall and a vestibule at the front doors and the offices at Fox Hill and Pine Glen elementary schools, the Burlington Patch reports. Currently, when visitors come to each school, they are let in with an electronic lock and school employees cannot see who is at the door.
Those in opposition of the security changes stated that the new measures would create a false sense of security, as would-be shooters would find another way to get into the schools.
