UMHHC Wins Lindberg Bell Award
IAHSS also recognized other professionals who contributed to hospital safety and security this past year.
At the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Annual General Membership meeting held in San Diego, Calif., last month, seven individuals and one institution were provided awards at the IHSSF Recognition Banquet and Presentation.
The University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers (UMHHC) won the Lindberg Bell award for demonstrating an outstanding healthcare security and/or safety program. UMHHC is no stranger to the award in that it received the Lindberg Bell in 2008. This year UMHHC’s most notable achievements included their efforts to reduce workplace violence, reduce patient restraints and develop procedures for potentially violent and forensic patients.
Others also were recognized at the event, including IAHSS Executive Director Evelyn Meserve who will be stepping down from her position this summer and leaving the industry. As a final send off to her, IHSSF presented Meserve with the Medal of Distinction for her tireless service to the organization and healthcare security as a whole.
Other award winners included:
- Medal of Distinction: Chris Van Gorder, Scripps Health
- Distinguished Lifeworks: Stephen Gaunt, IAHSS, New Jersey
- Distinguished Lifeworks: Bill Farnsworth, IAHSS, Florida
