La. Teen Fires Gun on High School Campus
The student has been taken into custody and charged with attempted second degree murder.

A freshman student at a high school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana was arrested after firing multiple shots from a handgun in the school’s courtyard Monday.
The Scotlandville Magnet High School student ran from campus after the shooting and was later taken into custody by an undercover officer with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, according to katc.com.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred just before noon.

The 14-year-old was reportedly about to get into a physical fight with three other students in an outdoor covered breezeway on campus when he pulled out the weapon and fired it three times.
The shooter then took off on foot and was arrested by an officer in plainclothes ten minutes later blocks from campus. Sheriffs responded to emergency calls and were on the campus within five minutes, reports The Advocate.
The shooting set off a commotion at the school as students fled and the campus went into lockdown mode immediately. The school remained on lockdown for nearly three hours as sheriff’s deputies and Baton Rouge police officers spoke with witnesses.
During that process, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools Superintendent Warren Drake talked with a group of about 150 parents that gathered around the campus perimeter. Drake assured them their children were safe and were being held in classrooms and hallways.
Eventually the parents were moved to the school gym, where the children were slowly released.
The student’s gun was recovered on the roof of a building across from a Sheriff’s Office substation.
The Scotlandville Magnet principal says the boy had recently transferred to the school. The school has no metal detectors.
The teen has been charged with possession of a firearm on school property, illegal carry of a weapon, illegal use of a weapon, aggravated assault, aggravated criminal damage to property and attempted second degree murder.
