A possible hospital patient dumping incident by three campus security officers is being investigated by Howard University.
The incident, which was captured on video taken by a bystander, appears to show the officers dumping a woman in a wheelchair onto a sidewalk outside of Howard University Hospital and then walk away.
According to WJLA, the video shows her feet “almost sticking straight up as the guards move her down the sidewalk.” When they stopped, the patient fell out of the wheelchair. One of the officers then tossed a cosmetics bag on the ground near her, and then all three officers walk away. The woman then stayed on the sidewalk, motionless, and no one tried to help her. One of the guards claimed to onlookers that the woman “threw herself on the ground.”
A little later local fire and EMS came to the scene, but the woman refused assistance. The incident happened several weeks ago.
A Howard spokewoman says the incident is being investigated and the officers have been put on leave, reports the Washington Post.
Neither the identities of the officers or patient have been released by Howard University Hospital.
