Hospital Security Tight Where Escaped N.Y. Convict Held

Malone Medical Centre is surrounded by media and police as it holds captured convict David Sweat.

The hospital holding the convict that escaped from a maximum security prison in New York isn’t taking any chances.

The Malone Medical Centre has upped security since David Sweat, one of two felons who escaped from a prison on June 6, was taken there after his capture on June 28. People entering the building must go through a police checkpoint and show their ID badges or explain their reason for coming to the hospital, according to standard-freeholder.com.

Sweat, whose condition was initially labeled critical after being shot twice, will be transferred to the Albany Medical Centre. Officials have begun questioning Sweat as his health has improved.

Sweat and his accomplice, Richard Matt, drilled through a cell wall and crawled through a manhole to escape the prison, sparking a two week manhunt that had many in the area fearing for their lives. Sweat was arrested two miles from the Canadian border.
