School Withholds Student’s Diploma Over Loud Graduation Cheers
CINCINNATI — A high school withheld the diploma of a graduating student as a punishment because his family cheered too loudly during the graduation ceremony.
The cheering for Anthony Cornist disrupted the ceremony, according to Mount Healthy City Schools Superintendent Lori Handler. Families had agreed to avoid disruptions so that all families could hear the names of graduating students, the Associated Press reports.
Cornist has legally graduated, but he or his family must complete 20 hours of community service before the school gives him his diploma.
