How Florida Atlantic Univ. Reaches Out to Its Community

FAU Deputy Police Chief Sean Brammer discusses the school’s community policing efforts and outreach programs.

College and university public safety officials can find it very challenging to get the word out about safety and security to their students, faculty and staff. Robust community relations and community-oriented policing programs, then, are a must in order for an institution of higher education to foster a culture of safety and security on campus.

“Community relations” was just one of several critical topics covered at the Campus Security100 Summit that took place in Tucson, Ariz., Feb. 16-18, 2016, and Campus Safety magazine discussed this challenging issue with Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Deputy Chief Sean Brammer.

In this interview, Brammer talks about the many programs FAU has launched that are designed to mentor students, as well as address the concerns that members of the community might have about the university and security measures on campus.
