Campus Safety magazine has so much valuable content each week that we’ve decided to start giving brief video overviews on some of the stories that have the biggest impact on the security industry.

In this week’s edition, we talk about hosting major events on campus and the way schools can control the crowds that come with them.

The first story we reference was actually initially published in January of 2015, but is extra relevant today because it focuses on presidential campaigns. Titled ‘Preparing for Presidential Campaigns and Protests on Campus,’ the story was written by Northern Virginia Community College’s Lt. John Weinstein. Weinstein gives 13 quick tips that every public safety department should check out before their schools host candidates, protests or other politically-fueled events.

The other story we reference has little to do with whether or not the school sanctions the event. For better or worse, some schools have developed reputations as St. Patrick’s Day destinations. As the holiday nears again, schools should consider increasing security if they’ve had trouble with partying in the past. We ran a story March 4 on a Canadian university that’s hoping to put its wild St. Patrick’s Day parties of the past behind them. This year they’re taking steps to control the parties, even if they’re off campus.
