A new campuswide text messaging and E-mail system has been implemented at Youngstown State University in an effort to improve communications with the students and faculty during an emergency.
The system is able to send instant messages to 30,000 mobile devices each minute. The university has been gradually upgrading its emergency-messaging system over the past couple of years in light of crises that have occurred on other college campuses across the country, according to The Vindicator.
Students, parents and faculty can sign up for the alert program at alert.ysu.edu.
