Yale Trims Security Department to Reduce Expenses

Yale University is reorganizing its security force in an effort to reduce expenses. The restructuring will eliminate several positions, including the director of security.

According to Yale officials, eliminating the top layers of management will “simplify and streamline” operations, reports the Yale Daily News.  However, in September, Yale’s Deputy Secretary Martha Highsmith said the finalized 2010 budget does not require cuts to personnel.

Lower-ranking supervisors will replace the director of security position. Several administrative positions were also cut, however, student safety is not expected to be adversely affected.
