Yale Considers Reform of Sexual Assault Reporting System

Published: February 12, 2006

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale’s College Council has proposed an overhaul of the university’s sexual assault reporting and response policies.

The resolution calls for the creation of an official advocacy position that would provide sexual assault victims with emotional, medical and legal support. The resolution passed with 23 votes in favor and one abstention.

Currently, there are several free counseling programs as well as a grievance board to deal with sexual assault cases. There is concern, however, that this system is too decentralized.
