CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Wyoming House of Representatives’ Education committee voted Friday to move a bill that could help school districts receive financial help from the state to add school resource officers.
In an 8-1 vote, the committee moved House Bill 230 to the floor. If approved, the bill would create a fund of about $5.5 million for SROs, WyomingNews.com reports.
The funds would only be available for the 2013-14 school year. All districts would have to apply for the funding (roughly $49,500 to cover one position) by July 1. Larger districts would be able to apply for more assistance for every group of 1,000 students after the first 1,000.
The funds cannot be used for other equipment or other expenses.
