A woman was arrested for felony child abuse after she beat a 12-year-old with an axe handle and long cable inside Hale Junior High School.

TULSA, Okla. – Police arrested a woman after she beat a child with an axe handle and a long cable inside Hale Junior High School.

Authorities said school officials called Mechsia Blakely, 39, because her 12-year-old had gotten into trouble. When she arrived, Blakely beat the student in the school’s main office, Fox 23 reports.

Campus police had to pull Blakely off the student, whose arms were covered with welts and bruises after the beating.

The suspect, who is the guardian of right for the child, was able to enter the school after buzzing the video intercom at the front door. The security officer who was at door did not see the weapons Blakely carried with her, which she hid behind her leg.

Blakely faces charges of felony child abuse. The child is no longer in the home.
