LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On March 27, University of Louisville police disarmed and arrested a woman who had taken a counselor hostage. They then asked Louisville police to check on the women’s two children. Both were found dead at the suspect’s home.
University officials received a call from campus police at 8:32 a.m., requesting assistance in escorting a female to University Hospital for mental health reasons. Two minutes later, an alert was sent out to campus police, as the woman had taken a counselor hostage.
At 9:04 a.m., the university issued its first safety alert warning students, staff and faculty of an armed person on campus. The alerts were sent out via phone calls, text messages and E-mails.
Police disarmed the woman around 9:15 a.m. and took her to University Hospital. The school was not locked down, and no one was injured. Campus officials said they are unsure if the woman was a student at the institution.
Louisville police were contacted because the woman made threats in relation to her family off-campus. When police arrived at her residence, they found the bodies of two children estimated to be 11 and 13 years of age.
Police were able to enter the home when a neighbor allowed them to use her spare key.
