Published: April 3, 2011

AURORA, Colo. — A woman jumped to her death on Friday from a tower crane on a University of Colorado-Denver Anschutz campus construction site. Campus police and Haseldon Construction have launched an investigation into how she was able to enter the construction site.

The 150-foot crane was being used to build a new level at the university’s dental school, 9 News reports. The woman initially tried to enter the site at the main entrance, but was turned away by workers. She appeared to leave the premises at that time.

Haseldon Director of Health and Safety Rick Reubelt told the news source that the woman would have had to get past two fences to reach the crane. Construction workers did not see her again until she had scaled the crane; they yelled at her to stop moments before she jumped.

The university released a statement after the incident, stating that the site now has increased security.
