VIEW ROYAL, B.C. — A mother was banned from seeing her son at Victoria General Hospital for more than two weeks after she allegedly tapped a nurse on the head with her forefinger to get her attention.
Shirley Spence had flown in from South Africa to care for her son after he suffered a brain hemorrhage on April 24, The Victoria Times Colonist reports. After Spence tapped the nurse with the intention of shushing her, the nurse complained. Spence was banned under the hospital’s zero tolerance policy for violence against staff.
Since June 1, Spence must be accompanied by a security guard if she wants to see her son on the ward.
