MADISON, Wis. – A fraternity at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater was suspended for three years after the university learned of the culture of underage drinking and hazing.
According to Mary Beth Mackin, assistant dean of Student Life, Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity forced their pledges to eat and drink odd things, such as raw onions and prune juice, and made the pledges perform acts of servitude.
Additionally, the institution received complaints about heavy drinking at a party hosted by the organization.
The fraternity can petition for reinstatement in three years after the suspension is over. Should the house return, it must be alcohol-free for two years. Recruitment activities will also be heavily monitored by the university and the national organization.
