KALAMAZOO, Mich. — In the wake of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School incident, Western Michigan University (WMU) will make changes its to its WMU Alert System.
Administrators at the university said that its current system, which blasts out 4,000 phone calls per minute, has not performed up to their expectations, MLive.com reports. Earlier this month, WMU experienced two armed robberies. The university twice activated the system; however, some students didn’t receive the message, while others received multiple.
Additionally, school officials are considering expanding its police force, which currently employs 62 people in four divisions, if necessary.
