West Virginia Univ. Student Dies after Being Found Unconscious in Fraternity House

School suspends all fraternity activities on campus.

A West Virginia University freshman found unconscious in a fraternity house died Friday, according to school officials. Nolan Michael Burch, 18, of Williamsville, N.Y. had been in the intensive care unit at Ruby Memorial Hospital since Wednesday after being found on the floor of the Kappa Sigma house.

Morgantown police were called to the house where they saw a man performing CPR on Burch, according to NBC News.

“Words cannot describe the heartache we, as a West Virginia family, feel at the loss of one of our own-Nolan Michael Burch-who passed away today,” says WVA president E. Gordon Gee in a statement on Friday.

West Virginia has suspended all Greek activities on campus.  In a separate incident, 19 Sigma Chi intoxicated pledges were arrested or cited for underage possession of alcohol on Nov. 6 after a street brawl.
