PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. – West Ottawa School District is seeking $90 million to make major improvements, including upgrading school security at nearly a dozen facilities.

Last year, WOSD expelled 25 students; six of the expulsions were weapons-related, WZZM13.com reports.

As a result, the district is seeking to improve video surveillance and revamp front entrances at eight elementary and two middle school buildings.

It would cost roughly $8 million out of the $90 million bond proposal to improve security across the district. District officials maintain that the bond proposal will not cost taxpayers more than what they are currently paying
.
Residents will vote on the issue on May 6.
