West Virginia U. Vows to Correct Bad Fan Behavior

Disruptive fan behavior at a Feb. 3 basketball game at West Virginia University (WVU) was the last straw for WVU President Jim Clements, who said he was “appalled and embarrassed” by fans who threw objects onto the court during the game against the University of Pittsburgh.

The Los Angeles Times reports that during the game, Pittsburgh assistant coach Tom Herrion was hit under his right eye by an object that appeared to be a coin.

This incident was not the only problem WVU has had with its fans. In January, a university official had to warn students to tone down their language at basketball games after profanity could be heard on national television coming from the student section.

For future games, the university plans to increase security and surveillance. Clements added that violators will be prosecuted.
