EVERETT, Wash. – A judge has approved an agreement settling one of two $25 million claims over a school bus accident that severely injured a teenager.
The family of Keito Swan, 17, filed claims against the Marysville School District and Snohomish County after the high school junior was struck by a school bus and dragged 100 feet. The accident occurred in the dark hours of the early morning while Swan was attempting to cross the street in front of a school.
Swan spent five weeks in the hospital being treated for a broken right leg and pelvis, shredded skin on his legs, as well as groin and head injuries.
Pursuant to the agreement, the Marysville School District will pay Swan’s family $600,000. The case against the county remains pending.
According to police, Swan attempted to cross the street at an area not designated a crosswalk, was wearing dark clothing and was listening to music through his earphones, all of which may have contributed to the accident.
