Wash. District Implements Mobile Surveillance Application

CAMANO ISLAND, Wash. — The transportation department of Stanwood-Camano School District #401 has introduced mobile surveillance into its fixed security system to enable quicker evaluation of potential security incidents.

The district is using the MobileCamViewer mobile surveillance application from mobiDEOS to help keep transportation routines intact.

The department transports 2,700 K-12 students to and from eight schools each day. Officials said the sheer volume of the student body requires a large bus fleet for the daily schedule, and protection against theft and vandalism is pertinent to keep everything running on time.

Lee Heinrichs, director of transportation for Stanwood-Camano School District, was looking for an application to expedite the process of incident response. Heinrichs downloaded MobileCamViewer to his iPad, slicing two minutes off the security system log-in process — a potential difference-maker in critical situations.

“My iPad is instant-on, so it is quicker to access my cameras than booting up my home computer and making a connection,” Heinrichs said.  “This offers the potential for quicker analysis of a security breach, and offers a fresh approach from doing it the old way.”

The larger tablet screen allows Heinrichs to access his entire perimeter cameras live from a single screen. The seven cameras overlook various parking lots, a fuel tank and the central motor pool, giving Heinrichs a clear view of all activity around the perimeter.

“As far as I can envision, there is a big advantage to being able to look at my cameras from a mobile application, especially if I get a call while out on the road,” Heinrichs said.

MobileCamViewer offers secure, reliable carrier-grade cell phone-based video surveillance and remote monitoring solutions, providing “anytime, anywhere” mobile video surveillance for virtually every situation, according to the company. Its compatibility across many smartphones, tablets, cameras, DVRs, NVRs and video servers — as well as simple integration with PC and Mac-based iOS systems — enables MobileCamViewer to comply with both new and existing network infrastructures.

The basic MobileCamViewer application is free, with incremental costs for premium service users, according to the company.
