Virginia Hospital Security Foils Infant Abduction

Published: July 23, 2007

NORFOLK, Va. – Twenty-one-year-old Shameka Patrice Pittman faces charges of abduction after police claim she attempted to kidnap a newborn infant from Norfolk General Hospital.

On the night of July 20, Pittman allegedly snatched a baby boy from the hospital’s maternity ward. Witnesses say she was dressed in hospital garb and attempting to pose as an employee. A hospital spokesperson says Pittman never made it out of the ward and credits the hospital’s multilayer security system with saving the infant.

Police arrested Pittman later that night. They claim she is not related the child, and her motives are still unknown.
