Video Helped Police Catch Attackers of Homeless Men

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Officials are saying Florida Atlantic University surveillance video helped police track down two teenage suspects in the Jan. 12 beating of a homeless man. The teens are also suspects in a pair of other attacks on homeless men at the school.

After the national publicizing of video and still photos showing two males chasing and beating 58-year-old transient Jacques Pierre, police received more than 100 tips. Investigators contacted the suspects’ families within a day of the video being aired.

Brian Hooks, 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile surrendered to police Jan. 15. Both face aggravated battery charges for the beating of Pierre and murder charges for the death of Norris Gaynor, 45. The teens are also suspected of beating Raymond Perez, 49, in the same evening.
