Va. Tech Student Brutally Decapitated by Fellow Student on Campus

A female Virginia Tech student was decapitated with a kitchen knife at the campus cafe on the night of January 21. Her alleged murderer, a graduate student from China, has been arrested. This incident marks the first killing after the fateful campus massacre in April 2007.

The school’s electronic alert system warned students of the incident and directed them to remain in place until police could investigate.

Twenty-five-year-old Haiyang Zhu is being charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond. The victim, 22-year-old graduate student Xin Yang, arrived at the campus earlier in the month from Beijing.
