RICHMOND, Va.,—Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s Taskforce on School and Campus Safety has made 24 proposals to the state’s general assembly, one of which involved restoring funding for school resource officers (SROs).
The funding for SROs was cut in the past seven years due to budget cuts, reports the Washington Post.
Other recommendations put forth on Thursday include stiffer consequences for illegal gun buyers and expanding access to mental health services. The recommendations were prompted by December’s Newtown, Conn., mass shooting.
