CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. — The Supreme Court of Virginia has rejected the latest appeal of a man who faces the death penalty for killing a security officer and a deputy at Montgomery Regional Hospital in 2006.
At the time of the incident, William Morva was an inmate who was taken to the healthcare facility for a sprained wrist and leg. During his stay, Morva overpowered a sheriff’s deputy from Montgomery County. He then used the deputy’s pistol and shot security officer Derrick McFarland who was unarmed.
Morva, who was convicted of capital murder of a law enforcement officer and capital murder of more than one person within a three-year period, can still file a petition for rehearing in the Supreme Court of Virginia. If it is denied, the court will schedule an execution date, WDBJ7.com reports.
