Upstate New York District Wins $316,000 Matching Grant
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The East Syracuse-Minoa school district has been awarded a $316,017 federal matching grant to improve school safety and security.
The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant is the largest in New York state history and would provide 50 percent of the funds to pay for improved security and safety measures, such as metal detectors, locks, lighting and equipment.
The district will be required to match the funds provided. On Feb. 15, residents will vote on the matching funds, which are included in a capital improvements bond proposition.
