The daughter of a college maintenance worker at Manhattanville College, was found dead in the college’s staff housing on Feb. 22, a death that is being ruled a homicide, reports the Washington Post. Her mother was charged with second-degree murder for the victim’s death.
Marissa Pagli, 18, was a freshman volleyball player at the college and lived on campus with her parents. Officials said the victim’s father, John Pagli, a maintenance supervisor at Manhattanville College, discovered the victim’s body.
The victim’s mother, 37-year-old Stacey Pagli, allegedly strangled the victim and then sliced her wrist and tried to hang herself, according to LoHud.com. She was found unconscious when the girl’s body was discovered around 12:15 pm.
The suspect is being held without bond.
Though police said the incident was an isolated event and that they were confident the campus community was safe, students voiced their worry and frustration regarding the lack of information given about the incident, LoHud.com reports.
