RENO, Nev. – Officials at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) announced a text message number to allow fans to report drunken disruptive behavior at Mackay Stadium, according to the Mercury News.
The number will be displayed on the scoreboard at the games. Fans can send text messages to that number, prompting authorities to respond.
After receiving complaints that the stadium was not family-oriented, officials developed a zero tolerance policy that will deny access to anyone who appears to be visibly intoxicated. Additionally, beer kegs will be banned from tailgating areas.
Inappropriate behavior will result in fans either being arrested or directed to leave the university premises.
Campus police will be stationed at every gate in the stadium. Should problems occur, an alcohol response team, comprised of specially trained individuals, will handle the situations. The team will also monitor beer sales in the concession area.
