University of North Carolina Students to Receive New IDs
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of North Carolina, Charlotte will issue new identification cards in mid-April.
With the old cards, if a criminal had the know-how and correct technology, he or she could extract the cardholder’s social security number. That information could then be used to commit identity theft or other illegal acts.
The new cards will not be encoded with the cardholder’s social security number. Instead, they will contain new Banner-generated ID numbers. The new numbers will also be printed on the cards so students won’t be required to memorize a new number.
