ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan police are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred Thursday evening at the construction site of the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion.
The suspect, identified as Lagarien Thomas, 33, was apprehended following an extensive manhunt, reports ClickOnDetroit.

The incident unfolded shortly before 6:20 p.m. when Thomas allegedly attempted to enter the construction site and subsequently stabbed a worker after being denied entry.
The University of Michigan promptly issued an emergency alert, advising the campus community to exercise caution and remain vigilant. Despite the warning, campus life continued with many students seen walking around the area.
Suspect Has Criminal History with University of Michigan
Thomas is no stranger to the University of Michigan Police Department, reports WXYZ. He has a lengthy criminal record, including various misdemeanor charges and convictions in Ypsilanti, Pittsfield Township, and Ann Arbor, where he currently faces two open cases. Earlier this year, Thomas was arrested for carrying a knife and trespassing in the Medical Science Building, with another arrest following in April for trespassing at Pierpont Commons.

The victim of the stabbing underwent surgery for his injuries.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident and plan to submit their findings to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office. Thomas faces potential charges of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, less than murder, which could soon be formally.
