Orlando, Florida – SchenkelShultz Architecture announced on Tuesday the design completion of the University of Florida (UF) Public Safety Building. With construction commenced in July, the firm designed a new central location for the University of Florida Police Department (UFPD) that, according to the company’s press release, “will increase efficiency, enhance visibility to the campus community and promote public accessibility.”
“We are very proud of this project,” said Ekta Desai, Partner at SchenkelShultz. “In working with UF and testing options within our studio, we were able to create a practical, inviting, high-performance space that will accommodate multiple Public Safety departments. By design, the new building will define a campus landmark as a gateway and enhance communication and reaction time to better serve the University of Florida community.”
The press release explains that the new building will bring together five separate business unit locations that are currently spread throughout the University campus. In addition to administration offices, the new 3-story state-of-the-art UF Public Safety building will feature a public lobby space, community meeting room, offices, multi-purpose space, secure public records storage, interview rooms, locker rooms, and a vehicle sally port.
“With the firm’s growing Public Safety design talent and community-driven focus, we have been able to leverage our expertise to create a space that will increase efficiencies and impact,” added Johnnie Lohrum Jr., Principal and Public Safety Market Leader at SchenkelShultz. “It is important for our firm to focus on projects that will impact our community in a positive way.”
