The University of Illinois announced it will begin running background checks on all new employees beginning in the next school year.
The new policy must be approved by the Board of Trustees in September and is set to begin October 5, according to qconline.com.
The checks will be conducted only after an employee has accepted a job offer and will verify the candidate’s employment history while looking into their national, state and local criminal records.
Although university officials recently said the checks would cover the past seven years specific procedures are still being decided on.
Currently, the school only requires background checks for employees in “security sensitive” positions and employees working with money, children or in a hospital. Each background check will cost around $45 dollars.
