A man involved in a fatal shooting incident has fled a hospital after personnel allowed him off campus to smoke a cigarette. The man is a suspect in the murder of a 40-year-old man.

Police did not guard the suspect because of his medical condition – the man had sustained three gunshot wounds during the alleged altercation with the victim. He was one of four men wanted in connection with the shooting.

According to police officials, the suspect would have been guarded had the hospital notified authorities that his condition had improved.
